Description: A documentary film on recent Norwegian history (1905-1955). Spanning from the break with Sweden and arrival of the new king Haakon VII, to the promise of things to come through such new fields as space exploration. The film pays especially attention to the changes in commerce, the emergence of new political fractions, and WWII in Norway and abroad. But also less famous occurances are shown, for instance a sequence on Norwegian aviation history. The film encompasses the changes in all fields of Norwegian society, including art and culture, and the emigration to America. Many prominent people are featured, such as members of the Royal family, Fridtjov Nansen, Christian Michelsen, Winston Churchill, F.D. Roosevelt, Christian Krohg, Bjørnstjerne Bjørnson, Sigrid Undset, Knut Hamsun and Edvard Munch. Also some historical footage from other countries, like the burning of the German Reichstag, the Russian Revolution, and from Nansen's work with the League of Nations.
